Healthy restaurant eating is possible and can be much easier than you think. If your schedule has your traveling a lot or opting for take out often, use the ideas below to stick to your healthy meal plans while still enjoying your meal out.
Eating Out Can Be Healthy. Here is my plan of attack whenever I am on vacation, traveling for business or just in a situation that has me ordering out more than I am able to cook.
I do what I call “damage control”: Do the best I can, with what I’ve got and have an awesome time on my trip!
Prepare my “emergency kit”. I will pack and take with me: walnuts, almonds, almond butter, organic turkey and beef jerky, apples and pears. None of these need refrigeration so they will keep well wherever you are. If I’m in a situation where there is no protein handy (like when it’s time for a snack), I’ve got my nuts and jerky to tie me over. If you don’t have something handy, you just may find yourself grabbing pretzels and potato chips (or whatever other horrid food people eat while away).
Breakfast
There is always a protein on the menu, no matter what. Omelets, or smoked salmon are my favorite choices but I’ve even gone to places that now carry turkey bacon and turkey sausage on the menu. Stay away from the heavy and deadly pancakes and waffles. This is a blood sugar disaster waiting to happen. Eating a sugar loaded breakfast like this will only set you up for hunger and cravings the rest of the day. And, just may ruin an otherwise great day.
Lunch and Dinner
I have said this before. Most of us know what is healthy on the menu but we still continue to order the crappy stuff. Yes, I do believe in a treat and a cheat meal once or twice a week, but definitely not every night of your vacation. Some people eat and choose items off the menu like they are being sent to starvation camp when they get home. This is not an “all or nothing” deal. You’ve committed to eating healthy for a lifetime. Don’t worry. The food will always be there whether you eat it all at once or space it out over a lifetime.
Ok, back to my point. First, items on the menu that you know are drenched in heavy sauces are an instant No-No. Fettuccine Alfredo? Come on now. Are you serious? Can you get the steak, veggies and salad instead and be just as happy? Or, the Chicken Cacciatore with a side of broccoli rabe? (Yes, we’re at an Italian restaurant). Often times, our taste buds are really just as happy with a healthier choice. No, this is not deprivation. This is choosing to feel good, be healthy and eat good food at the same time. Comprende?
Desserts
I love desserts too and I will definitely get myself a yummy piece of apple pie or chocolaty treat while I am away. But if the piece of dessert is bigger than the size of my head, I will not eat the whole thing. There is no need. My taste buds are just as happy with a few bites (and my body is happier too). Remember, we’re not going to starvation camp after this. Trust me, there is enough apple pie, chocolate or (insert your favorite dessert here) to have a small amount at a time for the rest of your life.
The Trolls
The who? Yes, you know who the trolls are. Those people who tell you to “just eat what you want”, or “don’t torture yourself”. These people always seem to come out of hiding when dining with you at a restaurant. (They are also present at parties and family functions. Be afraid. Be very, very afraid). Don’t let anybody else tell you that taking care of yourself and feeling great is a bad thing. I don’t mean to talk bad about your family and friends, but chances are they are not too thrilled with their current weight and health and really just upset that you actually started to eat healthy and take control of your life.
Remember, there is no need to avoid restaurants and vacations (but please do avoid fast food joints). You just need to focus on the healthier options and have a great time!

Constipation Treatments
What constitutes constipation? Well, you are constipated if you have 1 or less bowel movements each day.
Why does this happen?
For several reasons…
It may be that you have just transitioned your eating from one that was NOT “oh so healthy” to your new healthy nutrition plan. Because you are probably, now, feeding your body more fruits, vegetables and natural foods that contain more healthy fiber, your body is trying to get used to it and adjust.
This may not be the only reason you may be experiencing constipation. One of the most common reasons people have a hard time with “number 2″ is that they are dehydrated. If your colon is not absorbing enough water, it will not be able to push the bad stuff out.
You know what happens to this bad stuff? It stays inside you, making you extremely uncomfortable, fatigued, and worst of all…prevents you from losing weight!
Yes, if you have a toxic build up inside your colon, it makes it extremely difficult for your body to absorb nutrients and burn bad fat off your body.
Now those are just 2 of the many reasons you may be experiencing constipation…there are many more. The more important question is how do you tackle this uncomfortable problem?
I am not going to recommend some laxative or even some natural herbal formula. Many of these supplements can be extremely harmful and send you sprinting to the bathroom. Not to mention make it quite difficult to leave the house (imagine drinking way too much prune juice.)
Here are some easy and natural ways you can combat the old problem:
1. Make sure you are drinking enough water each and every day. How much is enough? You should be drinking half of your body weight in ounces of water each day. For example, if you weigh 200 pounds, you need 100 ounces of water (Yes! That much!) You don’t have to start with that amount all at once but make sure you slowly build yourself up to drinking your targeted amount.
2. Add freshly ground flaxseeds to your meals. Fresh flaxseeds can be purchased at most supermarkets and health food stores. I grind mine up in a coffee grinder and have 1 TBSP mixed with water every morning. You can also add your tablespoon to your morning oatmeal, yogurt or even to salads or on top of fruit. Not only will you be increasing your fiber content for the day, you will be adding extra healthy Omega 3′s to your meals.
3. Make sure to include enough raw foods into each one of your meals. No, I am not suggesting you put a raw steak on a plate and eat it. But you should ensure that there is at least 1 raw component to each meal. For example, for breakfast and snacks include some fresh fruit. For lunch and dinner have some raw veggies (cucumbers, carrots and tomatoes). Cooked vegetables are great (I love my sautéed spinach and cooked cauliflower) but you will benefit more from the naturally occurring enzymes in fruits and veggies if eaten raw so make sure to include both cooked and raw into meals.
4. Start each morning with this great “digestive tonic”: 1 TBSP lemon juice in one glass of water with a dash of cayenne pepper. This morning concoction will help to stimulate your bowels and release whatever “bad stuff” may be stuck to your colon walls.

Have you reached the conclusion that you need to change your food and activity habits in search of over all well-being and ideal weight?
Many people who weigh too much, has found that slowly but surely they gain weight over time. One kilo a year is ten kilos in ten years.
If you want to lose weight successfully, you must be motivated to change your habits. It is important to have support and encouragement from your friends and family. Many feel that it is a good support to ally with friends who meet regularly for activities, or you can participate in other types of organized diet and activity plans.
* Read through the advice and think carefully about how to proceed successfully, to change your way of life.
* Physical activity makes it easier to lose weight.
* A weight loss of 1-3 kg per month is recommended.
* If you initially weighing 120 kg, you’ve won a lot if you manage to lose 10-12 kilos.
* Get familiar with your food habits. The most important change you can do is to eat more vegetables and fruits, potatoes, bread and fish, and reduce consumption of foods with much fat and sugar like cakes, snacks, sweets and soft drinks and fat meat and dairy products.
* Start your day with breakfast. If you are not hungry in the morning, take a breakfast pack for lunch at work or school.
* Eat fruits and vegetables as a snack when you “want something”.
* Try to eat regular meals, and eat several small meals rather than few large. Four meals a day is appropriate for most.
* Eat supper. It is better to eat a few crackers or a slice of bread, then be so hungry that you throw in the first and best you’ll find in the refrigerator.
* Drink glass of water before each meal.
* Many types of drinks can still provide many calories (wine, beer, soda, juice nectar, juice). The natural fruit sugar in orange juice provides as many calories as soda and juice. But because the juice also provides a host of other valuable nutrients, juice is a much better choice.
* Do not go shopping when you are hungry! Write down a list of what you need before you go to the store, and stick to the list.
* Try to find food and activity habits that you can live well with, even after you have achieved the desired weight.
